The Little Things Are the Big Things
barre, bites and business. doing it all (ish): attempting to balance barre, motherhood, and business—sharing what works for me and hoping to help you in the process!
Two of the books I come back to again and again—Atomic Habits by James Clear and The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy—have completely shaped how I approach my day-to-day life. They both preach a similar truth: it’s not about doing something huge once in a while; it’s about doing the small things, consistently, that lead to real change.
There’s something powerful about the idea that 1% better every day truly adds up. When life feels overwhelming, when goals feel far off, I come back to my micro habits = the tiny actions I take daily or weekly that help me become the person I want to be. Not perfectly, but consistently.
Here are some of the micro habits I’ve built into my routine and stacked upon each other over time. They may seem simple, but they carry me.
Daily Micro Habits
Wake up at 5:00 AM—every day
Warm water with lemon + mineral salt while I unload the dishwasher
Write down one thing I’m grateful for
Bone broth + deep work at my computer (focused work hour)
Eat breakfast outside, drink coffee, read a book (and yes, a little doom scrolling)
Take morning supplements
Walk 2–5 miles total throughout the day (split into short walks)
Take a Pure Barre class to reset and refocus
Drink 1–2 bottles of water
Eat a protein-rich lunch
Afternoon adrenal cocktail + protein-rich snack
Optional second short walk (1–2 miles)
Prep dinner during my toddler’s afternoon nap
Pack my toddler’s lunch during dinner clean-up
Take evening supplements
Bone broth hot chocolate + one piece of dark chocolate after dinner
Start the dishwasher before I go to bed
Weekly Micro Habits
Plan meals for the next week every Friday morning
Order groceries for Saturday night or Sunday morning delivery
Wash all fruits and veggies as soon as they arrive
Prep protein basil seed pudding (better than chia seeds)
Prep adrenal cocktails
Prep snacks and easy-to-pack lunch items for the week
Freeze some items for later; raid the freezer stash mid-week (usually Wed/Thurs)
Pick up fresh eggs from the farm every Tuesday
Write out the full weekly schedule on Sunday
These micro habits aren’t about perfection. They’re about building a rhythm that supports the life I want to live. One where I’m grounded, calm, nourished, and present for the people I love (including myself).
I don’t always hit every single one, but when I do even most of them, I feel more like me. More capable. More calm. More connected.
If you’re craving a little more structure or energy or clarity in your day, start small. Choose one habit and let it anchor you. Then, when that one feels easy, stack another. And another.
That’s the power of the compound effect…it all adds up.
